Depression
Healing Horizons specializes in focusing on unique and novel ways of treating treatment resistant depression. Depression affects over 20 million Americans and the rates have increased recently to over 35% as of 2023. We have also seen an increase in treatment resistant depression. Depression can not only be debilitating for the individual but the entire family and affect daily activities with patient struggling with poor energy, focus, difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.
We provide FDA approved treatment for depression. Depression is traditionally treated with psychotherapy and antidepressants that can have a multitude of side effects and sometimes takes days or weeks to be effective. We specialize in treating treatment resistant depression with FDA approved treatment modalities.
Spravato
Spravato is a breakthrough treatment for treatment resistant depression. If you have been depressed and have failed treatment of at least 2 antidepressants then this treatment may benefit along with an oral antidepressant treatment. We will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine if Spravato is the best treatment option for you. Spravato is prescribed in two dosages 54 mg or 84 mg. Spravato treatment is usually in conjunction with an oral antidepressant. After treatment with Spravato you will be monitored in our comfortable facility for 2 hours by our Spravato specialist. During this time frame some patients experience temporary elevation of blood pressure, and rarely some short term side effects of dizziness, sedation, nausea and dissociation. These side effects usually resolve the same day. Once the treatment is completed, you will need a family or friend to drive you home, we also recommend you refrain from driving until the next morning.
The Usual Spravato treatment plan consist of:
Month 1: two treatments per week
Month 2: one treatment per week
Month 3 onwards: Maintenance treatment as needed.

What is Spravato™?
Focusing on a completely different pathway in the brain, Spravato Esketamine nasal spray can work rapidly and effectively to treat even the most severe symptoms of depression. Spravato is one of these novel medications working on the glutamate system which we believe causes increase in BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) which acts as a type of fertilizer to the brain and theoretically leading to new nerve growth and lasting change to the brain (neuroplasticity or neurogenesis).

Initial Evaluation - Child and Adolescent | 80 minutes

During this session the physician will interview Child or Adolescent and Parent or Legal guardian separately and then together. These sessions focus primarily on comprehensive evaluation, diagnostic assessment and treatment options.
Follow Up - with or without Therapy | 30 minutes

This session primarily involves medication management with or without therapy.
